Davis said, "The language used by Mr. Schiff and Mr. Cummings about classic mob tactics is the answer directly to President Trump".

Davis said no matter what, though, Cohen will speak about the "personal abusive behavior" he witnessed while working for Trump.

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday subpoenaed President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen to testify, a day after Cohen said he planned to postpone an appearance next week in the U.S. House of Representatives, Cohen's adviser Lanny Davis said.

Cohen appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2017, but later pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the nature of his negotiations to build a Trump tower in Moscow.

In an interview Thursday, Davis said the House should take an immediate vote on censuring Trump "as a step before an impeachment investigation", and he pushed for a criminal investigation of Giuliani involving allegations of obstruction, witness intimidation and witness tampering.

Giuliani on Sunday said that Trump was "defending" himself by calling out Cohen's father-in-law, adding that "he may have ties to something called organized crime". The Senate Intelligence Committee beat him to it, but that doesn't mean Cohen won't also appear publicly before the House.

"We will get his testimony, " Cummings said. Mr. Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and the Kremlin.

The Senate has issued a subpoena to President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen, forcing Cohen to testify.

"So interesting that bad lawyer Michael Cohen, who sadly will not be testifying before Congress, is using the lawyer of Crooked Hillary Clinton to represent him - Gee, how did that happen?", Trump posted on his Twitter account.

Davis has told lawmakers that Cohen won't comment on any matters considered "under investigation", which would include his ongoing cooperation in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation and the illegal hush payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

The congressional subpoena is the first of potentially several that Cohen could face before he reports to prison on March 6 for his three-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to tax and campaign finance crimes, as well as lying to Congress.

After playing a clip of Rudy Giuliani discussing Cohen's father-in-law on CNN, Davis said, "It's certainly actionable because he just lied".
