Technics unveils new SL-1200 MK7 turntable aimed at DJs By Scott Wilson Jan 8 2019

The new SL-1200MK7, launched here at CES, is a sleek, black take on the traditional silver-colored turntable and features a new "coreless" direct-drive motor. Known as the SL-1210MK7 in Europe, this is the latest generation of the legendary SL series, and the first DJ-specific turntable from Technics in the best part of nine years.

"We wouldn't dream of drastically changing one of the most renowned products in music history", the company said at its launch event.

As well as the reliability and robust design of its predecessors, the new turntable boasts reverse playback, a core-less direct drive motor to reduce irregularity to the rotation, and motor control technology to make sure the decks respond to scratching.

Taliban call off peace talks with USA officials
The US still keeps around 14,000 troops there as part of a NATO-led mission aiding Afghan security forces and hunting militants. At the request of the United States , a Taliban office was established in Doha in 2013 to facilitate peace talks.

The chassis is made from a mixture of aluminium and glass fibre, which is meant to minimize distortion caused by vibrations in loud environments. The stylus illuminator features a white LED with brighter lighting than past models, and Panasonic also promises improved vibration damping to avoid disruption during DJing.

As for the price, while Technics is still ironing out final details, What Hi-Fi? has been told the SL-1210 MK7 will be £899 / 1000 euros, while the SL-1200 MK7 will be $1200.

Technics or its parent company Panasonic have yet to share when this new turntable will be available for purchase and what the price tag will look like.
