But now that iPad Pros have USB-C charging, and maybe even future iPhones, it might be good to make it a rule. USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, today announced the launch of its USB Type-C™ Authentication Program, marking an important milestone for the optional USB security protocol.

The new spec enables OEMs to protect against these types of attacks by having the host system authenticate a USB device, cable, or charger. Though this issue exists with USB-A, the problem is compounded by the fact that USB-C is created to transfer data, charge devices and connect external displays. The USB-IF is using DigiCert to register and certify the new specification. Host devices can confirm the authenticity of a USB device, USB cable or USB charger before inappropriate power or data can be transferred. This means device manufacturers can also limit the number of devices that can be compatible with your mobile phone or a laptop.

Relies on 128-bit security for all cryptographic methods.

Maurizio Sarri sends message to board after Southampton draw
Morata's struggles up front - where he's scored just seven goals this term - convinced Sarri to play Hazard in a false 9 position. We had four or five goal opportunities but sometimes if you want to have a lot of opportunities you have to score the first goal.

The USB Type-C Authentication Program implements a standard protocol to be able to identify and authenticate certified USB-C chargers, devices and cables, and this security verification happens the moment the device or cable is plugged in.

USB-IF has chosen to work with DigiCert which will be the certificate authority service for the program. Once implemented, the device will instantly verify that a connected USB-C device is indeed legitimate, then blocking or allowing the connection accordingly.

According to the USB-IF, authentication can be accomplished either via the USB data bus or with standard USB Power Delivery methods.
