According to the Daily News, police say that the suspect would case homes during open houses and them return to bulgarize residences.

Ackerman is from Los Angeles and has ties to NY. At the time, police said jewelry and $300,000 cash was taken.

"Hollywood burglary detectives following up on investigative leads have identified one person of interest in one of those cases, that person being Benjamin Eitan Ackerman, 32 years old of Los Angeles", Palka continued.

"The suspect is known to have changed the numbers on artwork", said Timmons.

Authorities allege Ackerman targeted high-end homes and gained access by posing as a buyer or agent at open houses. Derulo's home was burglarized in September of 2017.

Police say his tactics were highly sophisticated.

Ackerman set his sights on homes that were for sale, Los Angeles Police said. Detective Timmons said there does not appear to be a connection between that group and Ackerman, but they are investigating to see if any possible connection exists. However, detectives have not yet identified anybody working with Ackerman.

Detective Timmons said Ackerman knew how to fit in easily at open houses.

Right now police don't believe Ackerman is connected to a larger celebrity burglary ring that was dismantled by the LAPD in November. Numerous celebrities have been victims of burglaries around Southern California in recent years.
