Report: Windows 10 Takes Over Windows 7

Latest statistics from Netmarketshare suggest that Windows 10 finally managed to overtake the user-favorite Windows 7 by the end of a year ago.

By comparison, 26.08% of users on Steam are on Windows 7 (64 bit).

According to its data, in December 2018 Windows 10 reached 39.22% desktop OS market share, while Windows 7 was at 36.90%. Last Windows 10 update rolled out in December, 2018.

Microsoft's intermediary Windows versions, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, have about 5% share.

Microsoft says that it is aware of the problem, but the company does not plan on releasing a fix for it until the end of the month.

Stat-wranglers from NetMarketShare are the latest to declare that Windows 10 has gently given its much-loved (or less disliked) predecessor a nudge toward oblivion, if only by a few percentage points.

Windows 10's support for FLAC files was welcomed by anyone who wants to listen to music and audio with no compromises to its quality, such as music producers, but in reality the support hasn't been great, especially compared to how Windows 10 handles MP3 files.

"The Windows 7 ESUs will be available to all Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise customers in Volume Licensing, with a discount to customers with Windows software assurance, Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education subscriptions".
