Indian Student Dies While'Taking Selfie On A Cliff In Ireland

The man in his 20s, whose identity was not immediately known, is said to be an Indian national studying in Dublin, The Irish Sun reported.

The tragedy occurred south of the main viewing areas near the visitor centre.

Emergency services, including a search helicopter, were mobilised as soon as the alarm was raised.

A representative of the Indian Embassy is understood to have visited Co Clare yesterday and travelled to the scene of the tragedy. The rescue operation, which included deployment of a helicopter, led to the finding of the body from the water.

The body was transported the short distance to the Coast Guard station where a doctor was also requested to attend. His remains were taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

Police interviewed a number of eyewitnesses and have confirmed they are treating the death as a tragic accident.

Trinity College Dublin has released a statement after the tragic news that one of their students died at the Cliffs of Moher on Friday. While the official walking trail has been deemed safe, officials have warned those visiting to steer clear of the steep edges near the paths.
