Winners of Apple’s Latest ‘Shot on iPhone’ Contest Announced

10 entries made it to the top and will be featured on Apple's adverts, social media channels and in retail stores.

The images are undoubtedly unbelievable, but if you're like me and have driven by previous "Shot on iPhone" billboards and wondered how on earth did they shoot that on an iPhone, then this next part may be of interest to you.

The 10 winners came Singapore, Germany, Belarus, Israel and the USA, while the winning photos were shot on the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, "showcasing the quality of cameras across the line", the company said in a blog post. The challenge ran from January 22nd through February 7th, and Apple has now announced its ten winners.

The top 10 winners came from countries including Singapore, Germany, Belarus, Israel and the USA, highlighting the global community of iPhone photographers that participated. Entries were received from around the globe, with winners from Singapore, Germany, Belarus, Israel and the United States. Initially, Apple was not going to compensate the winners for using their photos for marketing purposes.

To determine the winners, Apple's worldwide panel of judges included its marketing chief Phil Schiller, in addition to a number of Apple employees and renowned photographers Pete Souza, Austin Mann, Annet de Graaf, Luísa Dörr, Chen Man, Kaiann Drance, Brooks Kraft, Sebastien Marineau-Mes, Jon McCormack and Arem Duplessis. What was notably missing was any kind of payment or cash prize to the winners for image usage, to which Apple quickly rectified and updated the terms of the contest to include a licensing fee.
