Aquaman 2 Is Happening, Brings Back Original Writer

But the bigger titles are yet to come, thanks in part to Johnson-McGoldrick co-writing The Conjuring 2 with Wan and Chad and Carey Hayes.

Johnson-McGoldrick previously contributed to the script for Aquaman and has also worked with Wan on The Conjuring 2, as well as writing the screenplay for The Conjuring 3.

Warner Bros. has taken a definitive step toward an "Aquaman" sequel, hiring David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the script.

The Australian/Malaysian director of 'Aquaman, ' James Wan, at his film's December 2018 world premiere. Meanwhile, the studio put an Aquaman horror spin-off called The Trench in development, with Hollywood newcomers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald as screenwriters.

Aquaman has grossed $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the second highest grossing Warner Bros. title of all-time and the first DC title since 2012's Dark Knight Rises to cross that monumental mark at the B.O. The ending of Aquaman, specifically in regards to Black Manta and Orm, seems to offer some clues. During the mid-credits scene of Aquaman, we saw the pirate (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) striking up a partnership with Dr. Stephen Shin (Randall Park), a scientist and conspiracy theorist obsessed with the Atlanteans, to get revenge against Arthur. Though Aquaman has been a standout commercial success for Warner Bros.

At the time, the original report claimed that the spinoff would not feature any of the cast of Aquaman, but Deadline is now suggesting that both Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Amber Heard (Mera) will feature in the movie, and that the two DC heroes will find themselves coming under attack from "a beast who is new in DC Comics mythology".

So while it's still in the early stages of Aquaman 2's development, we can probably expect the sequel to surf toward our local theaters in the next few years or so.
