Some tweeted that Big Boi's performance was the highlight of the show - and maybe of the low-scoring game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots.

At one point Levine invited a mostly African-American church group to sing with him - presumably to push back on criticism against a white band from California being chosen to perform in Atlanta, Georgia - but that group also disappeared after about a minute. In the background, rows and rows of empty stadium are shown. "It is a little bit of a fiasco out here, it is a little insane, so we are going to keep them home. but they are going to watch on TV and I am going to wear daddy bracelets so they can see that I am representing them well", Levine said.

Then add in reports that many notable acts, including Rihanna, Jay-Z and Common, declined to participate or put pressure on Scott to withdraw out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick's social justice causes, and you've got the makings of a full-on PR crisis.

The grand affair was attended by celebrities like Sohail Khan , Yuvraj Singh , Suresh Raina , Mika Singh and Daler Mehndi. Singer Mika Singh posted a video from the gala in which he is seen sitting alongside Kapil and cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

The photos have racked up a combined total of more than 925,000 likes.

"They will be [heard] - that's all I want to say because I don't want to spoil anything", Levine told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week.

Prinsloo's two daughters with the She Will Be Loved singer - Dusty Rose, two, and Gio, 11 months - were not seen with her, as Levine had previously said that "they are going to stay home" amid the frenetic pace of the day. "I've been treating it like I'm about to play in the Super Bowl myself". I'm not a public speaker. "We're going to keep doing what we're doing, hopefully without becoming politicians". I do speak, but it's through the music. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible.
