After all, she was up against Lady Gaga, whose performance in A Star Is Born has always been an awards contender heavyweight, and Glenn Close, whose nomination for The Wife was widely seen as an opportunity for the storied actress to finally take out an Oscar.

In a night that spread the Oscar wins across the board - Bohemian Rhapsody with four, and three each for Green Book, Roma and Black Panther, Colman's shock was evident as she went on stage while fighting back tears: "It's genuinely quite stressful".

She gazed at Close in the audience and said, "You've been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be". "This is not how I wanted to it to be, and I think you're awesome, and I love you very much".

"Graham King, Dennis O'Sullivan, everyone at Fox and New Regency, thank you guys so much".

This is a developing post.

Colman gave a nod to her fellow nominee, admitting she wished Close took home the big prize.

City authorities had placed the Monaco building under police guard, and tourists had only been able to see it from the outside. The city plans to build a park and memorial museum to replace the abandoned building, which took 3 seconds to destroy.

Close had been considered the frontrunner after first winning at the Golden Globes in January for her role in The Wife and then winning both a SAG Lead Actress trophy from her peers and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress a day earlier.

Taking to the stage to accept the gong, Olivia said: "If I'm really honest, I've always dreamed of holding an Oscar".

"To the Academy, to people who took a chance on me every step of the way".

"I'm so appreciative to all of you, to everyone who has had a hand in getting me here", Malek continued. "This is not going to happen again", she said. One poignant moment including her speaking to future generations while adding, "Any little girl that's practicing her speech for the telly, you never know". I used to work as a cleaner I used to love that job.

The star finally thanked her husband of 25 years, Ed Sinclair, calling him "my best friend". "Lady Gaga I love you!" "Thank you so much".
