The European Union (EU) and the League of Arab States (LAS) will hold their first ever Heads of State Summit on February 24th and 25, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to discuss how to further cooperate on a range of joint issues, including climate change, economic development, and illegal migration.

But Downing Street has played down hopes of a breakthrough on her Brexit deal being reached in Sharm el- Sheikh.

Speaking on Sky News he said: "You can't ask Ireland to compromise on something as fundamental as a peace process and relationships linked to the Good Friday Agreement in order to get a deal through which is about placating a group within the Conservative Party who are insisting on moving the Prime Minister away from her own position".

Irish foreign minister Simon Coveney has warned the United Kingdom that the European Union can not compromise on the issue of the Northern backstop to "placate" Conservative Brexiteers.

March is only 17 days before the Brexit deadline of March 29.

It is not yet clear what "motion" her government will put forward, but lawmakers are expected to try to influence May's strategy by voting for changes to it, including to rule out a no-deal Brexit or to press for an extension of Article 50, a measure that triggered two years of Brexit talks.
