Cowan Jr. paced Maryland, which connected on 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) shots from the field, with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Ohio State announced that senior point guard CJ Jackson will not play today against Maryland due to a shoulder injury. Sophomore Bruno Fernando, 6-10, has also been contributing to the Terps by averaging 14.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.

It marked the third time in the last four seasons that Maryland completed a season sweep of the Buckeyes.

Fernando started the surge with a three-point play, Smith hit a jumper and Cowan followed with a 3-pointer. The Terrapins won 75-61 at Ohio State on January 18 and are 6-2 against the Buckeyes since entering the Big Ten in 2014-15. After Ohio State missed its seventh straight shot, Cowan was fouled on an attempt from beyond the arc and sank two from the line. The Terrapins went on a 7-0 run punctuated when Fernando collected an offensive rebound and passed it to freshman Aaron Wiggins, who came through the lane to deliver a thunderous dunk with 2:43 left to make it 64-55.

Woods led Ohio State with 10 points at the break while Washington Jr. chipped in with six.

Coming off a 22-point performance against Northwestern, Ohio State's 6-foot-9 sophomore Kaleb Wesson was limited to seven points on 3 for 12 shooting. Having gone scoreless in the first half, Fernando finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds to help the Terps beat the Buckeyes, 72-62. A team official said the freshman "was not feeling well".

Carson Meyer had a goal and an assist for Ohio State, which clinched the title by going to the second OT. They shot 35 percent in the second half and 36.5 percent for the game. With the loss, the Buckeyes drop to 17-10 overall and 7-9 in the Big Ten while the Terrapins improve to 21-7, 12-5 in conference play. Despite relying heavily on freshmen, Maryland remains in the upper tier of the conference and might be tough to beat in the Big Ten Tournament.

Ohio State returns home to face No. 21 Iowa at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Terps beat the Nittany Lions 66-59 on December 1.
