Through the first the Leafs carried the run of play and had a slew of high danger chances, especially off the rush. The Capitals won 3-2.

The Washington Capitals are 2-2 on their current road trip and will look to finish it with a victory tonight at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Capitals held on to win consecutive games for the first time since February 5-7 against Vancouver and Colorado. They were a Holtby and crossbar away from taking an early lead, but while the shot clock suggested dominance, things were much closer by expected goals.

Ovechkin is now seven goals away from tallying his eighth 50-goal season in the National Hockey League.

The Capitals struck back on a shorthanded goal by Wilson. Ovechkin's household reputation of scoring is sure to help the Capitals in Thursday's tough matchup, as well as helping the team secure their playoff spot.

So he has 50 goals in his past 73 games. With his first assist in Monday's game, Carlson recorded his 300th career assist, becoming the third defensemen in franchise history to reach that feat. John Carlson and Jakub Vrana assisted on the goal. In the past five games against the Maple Leafs, he has recorded a goal and four assists. Andersen is having a better season than Capitals goalie Braden Holtby and that might be the difference in a game between two high-powered offenses. He had been absent for many games this season, only playing in 45 games out of the 59 game so far, but still has tallied 28 goals and 26 assists.

Andreas Johnsson had the other goal for Toronto (36-20-4).

Brett Connolly also scored for Washington shortly after a Leafs power play expired in the second period. Consisting of Nazem Kadri, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly.
