Major League Baseball has had teams play all over the world, most recently a series in Mexico in 2018 between the Padres and Dodgers.

Louis Cardinals is reportedly one of two possible matchups that remain in consideration for the London Series in 2020.

The other pair in contention for the privilege to play across the pond would be the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. The people spoke on condition of anonymity Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, because no announcements had been authorized. Part of that commitment involves staging games in London, with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox set to play a two game series at London's Olympic Stadium this summer.

However, unlike other award shows, viewers won't be able to watch Sunday's ceremony live when it starts at 7 p.m. GMT so that BBC producers can edit down the runtime to a shorter two-hour show, as well as snip any profanities.

The report, citing two people familiar with the discussions, suggested an announcement on the final matchup is expected after opening day this year. The Cards edged the Cubs 10-9 in the season series despite being outscored 100-96 across their 19 contests, including two extra-inning wins on back-to-back nights.

This will be the first time Major League Baseball has ever held regular season games in Europe, and it intends to make this an annual tradition.

The collective bargaining agreement calls for a 2020 regular season opening series in Asia, as well as more games in Mexico and London. Of course, the schedule better not screw them, but that shouldn't be a concern.
