Kiwi Israel Adesanya will now be headlining UFC 234 in Melbourne on Sunday against Anderson Silva

Following the main event of UFC 234, McGregor took to Twitter to give praise to former middleweight champion Anderson Silva for his performance against rising star Israel Adesanya.

Kelvin Gastelum, with a title belt draped over his shoulder, called himself "the champ" when speaking with media at UFC 234 on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.

Adesanya extended his unbeaten UFC record to 5-0, while Silva's overall MMA record dropped to 34-9, 1 NC.

The blazing hands and the remarkable reflexes that led Anderson Silva to become the greatest fighter in the world at his peak are long gone.

The Australian crowd booed loudly at Adesanya's words towards the champion but he ultimately sent well wishes to Whittaker in his post fight speech. "The kid's got 'it, '" White said.

"We were saying what everyone else was". "That first round was like Kung Fu movie". His interviews are exciting, he's an interesting guy, he's fun to watch.

Cheryl's 'shocked' face leaves The Greatest Dancer viewers in hysterics
Oti added: "I love Cheryl and had a great time filming " The Greatest Dancer " with her and I can't wait to see her again soon". A representative for the star said: "It's a fabricated story - yet again trying to pit female against female on a TV show".

The 43-year-old Silva, who was fighting for the first time in two years, showed some flashy moves, but fired back little in return.

As the punches and kicks continued to fly, Adesanya was just racking up far more significant strikes landed but Silva never went away and continued to throw counter shots until the final horn sounded.

But a patient Adesanya, who like his opponent, also displayed some showboating, dominated the third, peppering the Brazilian's face with punches as the veteran tended to drop his hands. All three judges awarded the three-round fight to Adesanya: 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

"If I'm playing basketball this is like playing Michael Jordan", he said.

The timeline may seem a bit optimistic considering Whittaker has dealt with a myriad of significant injuries during his time as champion. "This is it for me", Adesanya said after the fight - after which he and Anderson Silva bowed down simultaneously in a showing of mutual respect - the younger pupil having rightfully earned his idol's respect. After Whittaker and challenger Kelvin Gastelum successfully made weight Friday, Whittaker began having abdominal pains.
