Following Atletico Madrid's opening goal in their 2-0 win over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, cameras caught Diego Simeone throwing his hands around his crotch area in celebration.

Giménez opened the scoring for Diego Semione's side on the 78th minute before Diego Godín struck on the 83rd minute to wrap up victory for Atletico Madrid.

There was a low point for Atletico, however, with bookings for Costa and Thomas Partey, who will both now miss the second leg in Turin on March 12.

"I did it as a player in Lazio-Bologna and I did it again to show our fans that we have cojones", he told Sky Sport Italia.

Morata had a goal ruled out to the fury of the home supporters for a push on Giorgio Chiellini but a breakthrough finally came when defender Jose Gimenez scored after a knockdown by Morata from a corner whipped in by Lemar. "There are lots of things you can win, but you remember these moments of a competitive team".

Morata, who replaced Costa on 58 minutes, appeared to have headed Atletico in front against his old team but a VAR call disallowed the goal.

Atletico right-back Juanfran was not offended by Ronaldo's comments. "We knew it would be tough, that Atletico force you to play badly, to play slowly, they have been playing this way for eight years", he said.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri, whose side went close to overhauling a bigger first-leg deficit against eventual champions Real Madrid last season, also insisted the tie was far from over.

"We will try to grow and improve, but this is our style, or form and our way".

"We started positively, a we knew their qualities, but should've been more focused on the set plays".

"It's not a nice gesture, I admit, but I felt the need to do it", he said.
