Dan Evans reaches Delray Beach Open semi-finals

Dan Evans produced one of the best wins of his career, coming from a set down to beat big-hitting American John Isner and reach the final of the Delray Beach Open. It sounds very cliché but.

Less than a year ago, Evans found himself with no ranking after being banned for a year following a positive test for cocaine, but he has bounced back admirably in the past 10 months. "Let's say mine was a mental issue".

His last tour final was the 2017 Apia International Sydney when he lost to Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

There will be a first-time ATP Tour champion on Sunday, as Evans will face home favourite Mackenzie McDonald or Moldovan Radu Albot, both of whom are trying to reach their first final.

During his election campaign he floated the idea of granting amnesty to perpetrators of less serious drug-related offenses. Lopez Obrador, who has sought to avoid conflict with Trump over his wall plan, is exploring the legalization of some drugs.

Saturday will see Evans contest just the third ATP semi-final of his career, with John Isner or Adrian Mannarino awaiting him in the next round. He also pulled out of next week's Mexican Open in Acapulco, a tournament he won previous year.

And the omens did not look good as the American broke Evans' first service game to lead 2-0.

"There's something about the semifinals here, good Lord", Isner said. I just sort of did a walkabout. "I'm moving well, I'm playing pretty good, so I think I'm hard to play". It's getting to me now. I think tactically I did some things poorly today and that's what cost me. "Just to get the ball back and get the running shoes on".
