Her bank card was also used later that morning at another ATM, but there was no surveillance footage of the second withdrawal. It wasn't immediately clear when Reyes and Javier da Silva broke up. Da Silva was identified as a Venezuelan national who has been in the US illegally after overstaying his visa.

"We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy, " Berry said in a written statement. He said da Silva's arrest was a "huge surprise" and that Reyes did not speak of him recently.

He was described as being cooperative during his interview.

A search of her home turned up a drawing by Reyes that matched the social media profile of Da Silva.

De Silva was arrested in NY and the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan will reportedly handle the prosecution of the crime.

Javier DeSilva, 24, was arrested in Queens Monday night for allegedly murdering Valerie Reyes, 24, of New Rochelle, New York, Greenwich Police Capt. Robert Berry said at a press conference Tuesday.

"I'm afraid someone is going to murder me", she recalled her daughter saying.

'She didn't mention anything. "I was praying that wasn't her in the suitcase. I'm paranoid, mummy. I'm getting anxiety attacks.' She was having a hard time talking".

"We are, of course, devastated for my daughter's death, but I'm just blessed beyond grateful that they found her murderer", Sanchez told CBS.

Reyes, who worked at a Barnes & Noble in Eastchester, N.Y., planned to train to become a tattoo artist and liked to sing.

Reyes' mother said that Reyes supported da Silva while his mother was dying of cancer.

Vernon Geberth, a retired NYPD lieutenant-commander, told the Greenwich Time that he believes the boyfriend crossed state lines, that the suitcase killing was 'interpersonal, ' and suggested Reyes knew her killer and that the killing did not appear to be the work of a serial killer.

During questioning, DeSilva allegedly "admitted his role" in murdering Reyes, he said.

Her body was discovered around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 by a Greenwich highway crew in a wooded area. The New Rochelle, New York, woman's remains were found February 5 in a wooded section of Greenwich.

Autopsy results from the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are still pending.

"My daughter was a good soul", she said.

According to the complaint, which said "disposed of her body, resulting in the death of the victim", it is unclear when Reyes died, before or after being put in the suitcase.

According to The Journal, Reyes had taken her iPad, iPhone, clothes and bed sheets with her when she disappeared. DeSilva is a native of Venezuela and "has been in the country illegally since overstaying his visa", CBS New York reported, citing sources.
