"It may be built Ford tough, but I can say with absolute confidence it will be Chicago tough as well", Mayor Rahm Emanuel said after viewing the new vehicles, which will go on sale later this year.

It was stated that the new Ford investment directed to the said facilities in Chicago is also a fulfillment to the company's pledge that was indicated in its contract with the United Auto Workers and signed in 2015.

Ford plans to expand capacity to produce an all-new Ford Explorer, Police Interceptor Utility and Lincoln Aviator.

Set to build an updated body shop and paint shop at Chicago Assembly, as well as major modifications to the final assembly area will bring a number of advantages to the business.

Ford is betting big on the future success of its newly redesigned 2020 Ford Explorer.

The Ford Explorer and the Police Interceptor Utility are incredibly popular and profitable vehicles for Ford. Additional upgrades will be made to plant facilities, including implementation of 3D printing technology.

Larger groups seen crossing border as overall arrests drop
Families and children traveling alone accounted for about 6 of every 10 stopped, mostly from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Customs and Border Protection says it made 58,207 arrests or denials of entry.

Ford is also spending $40 million to improve lighting in and around the plant, improve the cafeteria and break areas, and upgrade parking lot security.

Given the thousands of employees in the Torrence Avenue plant, "we've got to continue to monitor, continue to educate", Hinrich said.

"Today, we are furthering our commitment to America with this billion dollars manufacturing investment in Chicago and 500 more good-paying jobs", Reuters quoted Joe Hinrichs as saying. "This investment will further strengthen Ford's SUV market leadership", Hinrichs said. At Ford's Chicago Stamping plant, the company is adding new stamping lines in preparation for the new SUV models. Ford also recently partnered with Volkswagen to develop and build electric and autonomous vehicles as well as medium-duty pickup trucks and commercial vans. In 2018, Ford was the largest producer of vehicles in the U.S.as well as the leading exporter.

Ford said it will invest $1 billion in two Chicago plants to ready itself for the production of its Ford and Lincoln-branded SUVs.

But President Donald Trump has applied enormous pressure on domestic automakers to keep their plants, and the jobs that go with them, in the U.S. In 2017, in an abrupt reversal, Ford said it would cancel plans for a $1.6 billion plant to make small cars in Mexico, instead adding 700 jos to s plant in MI.
