The AP reports police said the injured protester lost four fingers.

Fire department spokesman Gildas Lecoeur told The Associated Press that the injured man was taken to a hospital, but he couldn't confirm his current condition.

Police fired tear gas in Paris to disperse demonstrators, some of whom threw debris at riot police hunkered down in front of the National Assembly.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner has gone on Twitter to express his "disgust" as French yellow vest protesters set alight an anti-terror military vehicle at a protest in Paris.

There was also an arson attack on the home of the head of France's National Assembly, though it was not clear if the attack was linked to the protests. Its yellow smoking plumes, against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, made for a powerful image of rejecting authority.

One witness said the grenade that caused the injuries was sacked by riot cops to break up a crowd that had attempted to force their way into the National Assembly. "These attacks are intolerable".

The Palestinian foreign ministry said the conference is aimed at pushing its participants to adopt American positions. The economic plan is widely expected to include global funding proposals for the impoverished Gaza Strip .

Video shared on social media earlier Saturday shows one protester lash out and kick a police officer in the face, prompting police to charge demonstrators and strike out with their batons.

The Interior Ministry estimated the total number of protesters around France at 12,000, including 4,000 in Paris.

The Yellow Vest movement is becoming increasingly divided and fractured, with supporters disagreeing on both the means to and the political end game.

The protests - which were originally against the rise in diesel costs - have turned into a general discontent against French President Emmanuel Macron and high living costs.

The activists waved Latvia's red-and-white flag, shouting slogans like "the French have woken up, while Latvians remain asleep".

The first yellow vest day of protest in November brought 282,000 people out on to the streets across France, according to government figures.
