Google’s Pixel 4 could come with dual-SIM functionality enabled

With Apple providing dual SIM support on the latest iPhones in some regions and most Android phones offering the same, it's no surprise to see Google introducing actual dual SIM support on the upcoming Pixel 4.

We're expecting a Google Pixel 4 at some point later this year, but so far we haven't heard too many rumors about it.

This isn't widely-known information, but the Pixel 2 and 3 can technically act as dual-SIM devices thanks to their eSIM support. An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a chip placed inside the phone that takes the place of a SIM card. Never mind the fact that eSIM support is very limited in the U.S. and the rest of the world, the Pixel's Dual SIM mode is one that goes back to the early 2000s.

Bala's statement on removal from Varmaa!
In a statement, Bala said, "I am forced to release this explanation, due to the false statement from the producer of Varmaa ". The statement follows producers E4 Entertainment announcement on Thursday that they will not release Varmaa helmed by Bala .

Android Police first broke the story this morning, and their Richard Gao gave a great explanation of the different kinds of dual SIM available.

There are actually several different versions of dual-SIM: Dual SIM, Single Standby (DSSS); Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS); and Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA). And with the Pixel 4, Google could be introducing DSDS or Dual SIM, Dual Standby, which allows users to receive calls and texts on both the SIMs, as long as one of them isn't already in use. The most common is Dual SIM Dual Standby, wherein both SIMs are registered on the network at once, and both can receive calls / SMS, but generally only if the other SIM isn't already being used for that goal. This just means that you can't use both SIMs at the same time, in this case the physical SIM and the eSIM networks simultaneously. Ideally, phones would have Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) capabilities but those require two wireless radios instead of one. The same commit mentions that the Pixel 3 also supports dual-SIM use, but it's restricted to dogfooding. Hopefully, Google will decide to flip the switch for the Pixel 3 when it gets Android Q.
