All three cases are children who were not vaccinated or did not complete their vaccine series.

Vials of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine are displayed on a counter at a Walgreens pharmacy in Mill Valley, California, on January 26, 2015.

However, measles is highly contagious.

While the majority of children in Donegal still receive the MMR vaccine, the numbers have been dropping slightly over the past few years.

Dr. Peter Hotez, an infectious disease specialist at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital, said measles peaks in the late winter or early spring.

Apple Retail chief Angela Ahrendts makes surprise exit
Upon her departure, Deirdre O'Brien will be stepping into the role of Senior Vice President of Retail + People. Apple's retail stores are among the most profitable in the world, and under Ahrendts the performance improved.

Still, the response is unsurprising, according to Virginia Ramos, infection control nurse with Sea Mar Community Health Center, which runs six sites that offer vaccines in Clark County. The CDC notes that two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97 percent effective, while one dose is 93 percent effective. People who have never received a measles vaccine are susceptible to the disease, which can be deadly.

Orders for two types of measles vaccines in the Southwest Washington county were up almost 500 percent in January compared with the same month past year, jumping from 530 doses to 3,150, according to state health-department figures.

One case of measles has been confirmed in Denton County raising the statewide total to seven, according to health officials. At least 34 people affected are children between 1 and 10. Officials also warned last week of an infected patient who had visited Bend, Oregon, and may have exposed others to the virus there.

The Pacific Northwest outbreak includes one confirmed case in King County, where Seattle is located, and four in Multnomah County, which includes Portland, Oregon. "In a sense, we already saw that in 2018, but it looks like cases may pick up more in 2019".

According to the Mayo Clinic, people who are unvaccinated, travel to developing countries or have a vitamin A deficiency are more likely to catch the measles.
