After a grand jury heard evidence that the actor had coordinated the attack, yesterday Smollett was charged by Chicago police and turned himself into police custody this morning.

The police superintendent expressed disbelief and disappointment about the situation, saying during the press conference, "Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career".

On Thursday, he tweeted to Smollett: "What about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and risky comments!?.MAGA".
