Empire’ Actor Jussie Smollett Arrested Over False Police Report

Jussie Smollett paid $3,500 to stage the attack, says police.

Johnson said on Thursday that Smollett had paid the two men $3,500 by check to stage the attack after he sent himself a letter with racist and homophobic language in order to gain attention. But critics immediately questioned the likelihood of violent Trump supporters roaming around the streets of strongly-Democratic Chicago, suspicions that intensified after police failed to find video of the attack among hundreds of hours of footage from cameras near where the actor says it happened, and Smollett only gave police "limited and redacted" phone records. The stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary [on FOX's Empire].

Empire actor Jussie Smollett is accused of staging a racist, anti-gay hate attack on himself as a publicity stunt.

After a grand jury heard evidence that the actor had coordinated the attack, yesterday Smollett was charged by Chicago police and turned himself into police custody this morning.

The police superintendent expressed disbelief and disappointment about the situation, saying during the press conference, "Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career".

Once police had Ola and Abel's names from Uber, Smollett's scheme unravelled.

RIGHT: Police released CCTV of the two "suspects" after the alleged attack. "Celebs, news commentators, and even presidential candidates weighed in on something choreographed by an actor".
