Jussie Smollett: Empire actor denies staging his own 'lynching'

Jussie Smollett has no plans to meet with Chicago police on Monday, the actor's attorneys tell ET.

Jussie Smollett to be re-interviewed by Chicago police. "Smollett's attorneys will keep dialogue going with Chicago police on his behalf".

Smollett had claimed that the assailants "yelled out racial and homophobic slurs" as they tied a rope around his neck and poured an unknown substance that he suspected was bleach on him.

No doubt some conservatives went looking for holes in Smollett's story because they wanted to rebut a criticism of President Donald Trump (i.e., that his rhetoric emboldens racists and bigots).

"We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the "Empire" case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation", Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement at the time.

CBS Evening News, citing a police source, reported that the individuals in question were two brothers who claimed Smollett paid them to participate in the alleged incident.

City Council Speaker Corey Johnson apologized on Monday for calling the alleged attack on Jussie Smollett "an attempted modern-day lynching" - amid reports claiming it was all a hoax.

Webb added that sources have told him Chicago police believe their resources are being wasted in the case, pulling efforts away from other investigations. "Nothing is further from the truth..."

The country supplies 20% of India's crude oil and the Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia is 20 million-strong. Riyadh initially denied the murder, but now claims the journalist was killed in an unauthorized operation.

As "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett's hate crime hoax continues to implode before the viewing eyes of the American public, the mainstream media has been scrambling to cover their rears amid accusations from conservatives that they rushed to judgment in Smollett's favor despite the holes in Smollett's initial story.

What has Smollett himself said about the alleged attack?

One of the men is Smollett's personal trainer, whom the actor hired to help get him physically ready for a music video, Smollett's attorneys said in their statement.

But it's increasingly hard to believe that Smollett was uninvolved, given that the two men captured on surveillance video near the scene of the alleged attack are by all accounts Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, a pair of brothers who worked as extras on Empire.

Reports of the assault drew outrage and support for him on social media from some politicians and celebrities.

He also gave an interview to Robin Roberts of ABC News that aired on Thursday in which he said he was "pissed" at people who did not believe he was attacked.

A grand jury will reportedly hear the Jussie Smollett case sometime early this week, according to a report out this afternoon on TMZ.

Smollett, who is black and openly gay, plays gay character Jamal Lyon on Fox's "Empire". Police raided the brothers' apartment on February 13; they went from persons of interest to suspects. While reports surrounding the alleged attack have been serious and grim, there have been moments of humor that have surfaced during the whirlwind reporting. We actually even know in this country that since 9/11, a majority of the terrorist attacks on our soil have been right-wing terrorist attacks, a majority of them white supremacist attacks.
