The Indian team is set to play two T20Is and five ODIs against the Aussies in what is set to be the last set of global games that the boys get before going into the 2019 World Cup in England, starting on May 30.

"For the opening two ODIs, Virat Kohli will lead the side with Rohit Sharma as second in command".

".as a back-up spinner we are looking at him (Markande)".

Karthik was criticised for his on-field decision-making during the lost final T20 worldwide against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Karthik later justified the call by saying that he was confident of pulling off a six which didn't happen as India lost by four runs.

Gavaskar expressed that England are the favourites to win the World Cup and not India. The selectors want to test him out before the World Cup and the onus is now on Rahul to get the ball rolling and grab this opportunity to nail his spot as the third opener for the World Cup.

The 33-year-old displayed a decent performance in the recently concluded India's tour of Australia and New Zealand registering the scores of 38* (38), 25* (14), 12 (21) and 0 (1).

Kaul made it to the first two ODIs from which Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rested but more importantly, there are no left-arm seamers in the line-up.

Juraj Kucka headed in from Massimo Gobbi's cross to give the visitors the lead five minutes before half-time. The first for a foul on Kucka and the second for dissent immediately after the booking.

"Siddarth Kaul has been doing very well in whatever opportunities has been given and also at India A level", he said.

Like Karthik, spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was also overlooked for the ODI series against the reigning world champions, which is perceived as a dress rehearsal for India's World Cup campaign in England later this year.

"Shankar's performance in the recent series really changed a bit of dynamics and he brings a double impact to the side that's why have we have included him".

In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav has been rested for the T20I series while Yuzvendra Chahal will feature in both the formats. Kedar Jadhav is expected to chip in with a few overs of off-break.

Kuldeep Yadav is not part of the T20I squad and has been replaced by young Punjab and Mumbai Indians leg-spinner Mayank Markande.

"We have been in conversation with the franchises on all issues concerning the game of cricket as well as the interests of the country", he said.

"I have 13 names in my mind who will surely board the flight to England and they are Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav", the former Indian skipper was quoted as saying in an interview with India Today.
