Packie Bonner believes that the timing of Brendan Rodgers departure from Celtic will sour his place in the affections of the club's support.

Thai-owned Leicester City have fired Claude Puel and bucked the trend by hiring a British manager, Brendan Rodgers, to revitalise the Premier League team.

"It looks like they'll have to pay compensation (to Celtic) and rightly so".

'So I think he was pleased with the spirit.

Rodgers told Celtic's club website: "It has been a real honour to serve the club and its supporters across the past three seasons".

The verve and swagger returned with a fine opening goal from Demarai Gray to set Leicester on the way towards a first victory since Boxing Day at the King Power Stadium, in front of their new manager. "Will the new manager change the style of play mid-season?"

Gerrard said: "I've just been made aware that he's in talks with Leicester".

The pending return of Brendan Rodgers to the Premier League as manager of Thai-owned Leicester City would appear to be a rare case of a club making the ideal appointment.

"I think that relationship, ultimately, is the reason why Brendan Rodgers walked away".

Fans believe that now is their best opportunity to offload some deadwood, as Rodgers will no doubt look to mould the Leicester squad more to his liking.

There's a good chance he would have secured a third title this season but the lure of coming back to the Premier League was obviously too much to reject.

"Celtic is in great hands for the future and I am sure the club is in a wonderful position to continue to dominate Scottish football and do well in Europe, I know that will be the aim of everyone at the club".

It was a switch that disappointed the Celtic support, with their club closing on in on an historic treble treble.

"A number of years ago, Leicester probably would have been on a lower level than Celtic but now, after winning that league a couple of years ago, and the history they are building up, you could say they are on a par".
