And, for nearly as long, there have been rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio was keen to produce and star in a film about H.H. Holmes, with his mentor Martin Scorsese at the helm; DiCaprio even scored film rights to The Devil in the White City, a nonfiction book about Holmes by Erik Larson, over a decade ago.

Hulu announced the news during a presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Monday.

DiCaprio and Scorsese were developing The Devil in the White City as a film and decided that a series would be a better option to tell the story of those two extraordinary men who both were exceptionally good at their jobs.

Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the rights nearly 10 years ago, with plans to adapt the story into a film in which he would star as the main character, Holmes.

The story may seem familiar to fans of American Horror Story, as the FX series' fifth season was loosely inspired by Holmes' exploits at his infamous "Murder Castle". Scorsese was slated to direct the project back in 2015, but few updates had come to light in the years since. "One of the things that I had to stop for the past six months [to complete Silence] was my meetings on that script".

Not a whole lot is known about the series yet, but Paramount Television have confirmed that the actor and the director will be involved.

Martin Scorsese (who was attached to direct and produce) and Leonardo DiCaprio (originally on to star and produce) are still involved, though the announcement only now lists them as executive producers, though they may still take more active roles if they like what the show becomes.
