"Little to no verifiable change has occurred and North Korea's military capabilities", Abrams told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Gen. Abrams stressed that even if the United States eliminates the nuclear menace, USA troops will need to remain in the region to combat other conventional threats to American interests posed by North Korea.

The production came in spite of nuclear talks with the US led by the historic summit in Singapore last June.

After the first summit, Trump tweeted that "there was no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea" and that "everybody can now feel much safer".

The Singapore-based investor, who once said he would "put all of my money" in North Korea if he could, received the United States government's approval for the trip with his wife.
