In October, J.T. Realmuto's agent predicted the Miami Marlins' All-Star catcher would be with another team by spring training. Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in less than a week though, and to this point, Realmuto had still not been dealt.

Long, long, long, long trade story short: when Realmuto is finally moved, I expect some other things will shake out relatively soon thereafter.

After over a year of rumors about his future, J.T. Realmuto finally has a new home, though it's not one that really was rumored at all until the last week, as the Philadelphia Phillies stepped in and made a giant offer to snag the catcher.

The Phillies and Marlins agreed to a trade that will send All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto to Philadelphia for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospects Sixto Sanchez and Will Stewart, and an global bonus slot, league sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Realmuto isn't Machado or Harper, but he's certainly another significant addition for the Phils, who this offseason have also added shortstop Jean Segura, outfielder Andrew McCutchen and reliever David Robertson. They are likely not done yet either as they have also been linked to both Harper and Machado as well as Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel.

Alfaro, 25, slashed.262/.324/.407 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs in 108 games last season.

The Marlins had been talking for months with numerous teams about a Realmuto trade before deciding to send him to their NL East counterparts.

Sanchez, a Dominican with a 100-mph fastball and excellent command, has a 2.48 ERA in 48 minor league games over four seasons. The 21-year-old left-hander posted a 2.06 ERA over 113 2/3 innings with Single-A Lakewood.

The 27-year-old Realmuto was selected to his first All-Star game last season and won his first Silver Slugger award. "Electric stuff - a pitcher we think can develop and lead a championship rotation". He hit.277 and set career highs with 21 homers, 74 RBIs and an OPS of.825.

"It's hard to acquire top players at any position, especially at the catcher position, and we knew if were going [add] J.T., we were going to have to give up some talent in return", Klentak said. The catcher is under team control for two more seasons before hitting free agency after his final year of arbitration in 2020. They haven't had a winning season since 2009 and haven't been to the playoffs since winning the World Series in 2003.
