CBS, which aired that Super Bowl, was fined $550,000 by the Federal Communications Commission for the 2004 incident, but the fine later was overturned. Add Super Bowl as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Super Bowl news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

There were guest appearances from Travis Scott, Big Boi and a gospel choir, but nothing was more polarising than frontman Adam Levine's dancing. "I'm not in the right profession if I can't handle a little bit of controversy", Levine said. "To be able to bring my children because we're really family-oriented, it was a chance of a lifetime".

Adam Levine has responded to his fans and his critics after Maroon 5's controversial Super Bowl halftime show performance.

Levine had hinted that there would be some sort of nod to social justice in the performance, but that wasn't immediately apparent in the show.

Levine took off his shirt near the end of the act, exposing his nipples and leading people to point out the different reaction when Janet Jackson was shunned for one briefly exposed breast at the Super Bowl halftime 15 years ago.

The President also poked fun at the NFL's sensitivity to concussions after a woman at a 2016 rally was hit in the head. CTE has many risky effects on the brain, including confusion, anxiety, depression, and an increased risk of suicide.

A clip from the 2001 episode "Band Geeks" was briefly played during the show before it quickly transitioned into Scott's "Sicko Mode". "No one put more thought and love into this than I did".

In solidarity with Kaepernick, stars like Rihanna and Cardi B refused to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.

So instead, we were left with a rather underwhelming halftime show that was too unfocused and will likely be the butt of jokes for years to come.

The performance ended after Maroon 5 retook the stage for a medley of "Sugar" and "Moves Like Jagger". Their performance garnered more criticism from the worldwide media when Adam Levine took off his jacket and later on went to strip off his vest too as the crowd shouted and cheered in overjoy.
