This Democrat Just Proved McConnell's Point About the Green New Deal

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is weighing bringing the Green New Deal to a vote to "rattle" Senate Democrats, according to a report.

Senate GOP leaders who joined McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, at a news conference in Washington on Tuesday criticized the measure, saying it would increase energy costs.

"To me, this is just so extreme", said John Barrasso of Wyoming.

The name, Green New Deal, references the New Deal of the 1930s that President Franklin Roosevelt implemented to aid Americans suffering in the Great Depression by embarking on huge government-led infrastructure projects. The ambitious proposal has been spearheaded by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from NY. However, it's received far less support and more pause from moderate Democrats while receiving criticism from Republicans. "Ocasio-Cortez tried to claim over the weekend that the FAQ, sent to news outlets such as NPR and uploaded on her congressional website, is not really part of the Green New Deal's policy proposals".

The Senate will vote on new climate change legislation known as the Green New Deal, McConnell told reporters.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY also dismissed McConnell's plans for a vote.

In a clever touch, the "O" in " Tolkien " floats on the screen before shining like a certain legendary ring in its rightful place. Tolkien replies, " It's a story about journeys, the journeys we take to prove ourselves ". "It's about adventures.

President Donald Trump's administration opposes action on climate change and favors boosting USA production of oil, gas and coal.

The plan outlines some of the most aggressive climate goals ever put forward by Democratic lawmakers and clashes dramatically with the Trump administration's efforts to advance domestic oil, gas and coal production by rolling back environmental protections. "The Green New Deal resolution has struck a powerful chord in this country, and Republicans, climate deniers, and the fossil fuel industry are going to end up on the wrong side of history". It also includes non-environmental measures created to address issues like economic insecurity, housing and universal health care.

"It is so interesting to watch this very hard left turn the Democrat Party has taken, and it's also interesting to watch all of these Democrat presidential candidates rubber stamp this Green New Deal", Sen.

Democratic Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.) - who are running for president in 2020 - have all endorsed a resolution in support of the Green New Deal introduced by Sen.

Senator Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, accused McConnell of what he called a political stunt.

Markey's office responded with a statement chastising McConnell for threatening to call a vote on the resolution "without committee hearings, expert testimony, or a true national debate".
