McLaren CEO Zak Brown once again refused to rule out the prospect of Fernando Alonso testing the MCL34 during pre-season as the team look to hit the ground running in 2019. However, there is a possibility that he could be involved with McLaren in the future.

Although the Spaniard retired from Formula 1 at the end of a year ago, McLaren boss Zak Brown said he would be welcome to drive anyway.

The Woking-based outfit added Sergio Sette Camara to its junior programme for 2019 but the talented Brazilian doesn't hold a superlicence, contrary to fellow McLaren junior Nyck de Vries.

McLaren indicated on Thursday that retired double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso could stand in as a reserve driver for the team if needed this season. The Spanish star will be returning to the Indy 500 with McLaren this year.

Speaking at today's launch at the MTC, Zak Brown insisted that Alonso will not drive the auto in Barcelona in pre-season testing, but refused to rule out an appearance later in the year.

Now, the new plan is to use just race drivers Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

Ron and Don: Hurricanes’ celebrations are ‘absolutely ridiculous’
Not only are the Hurricanes going to keep celebrating and having fun, they're going to profit off of Cherry's anger. Perhaps Cherry made those comments for ratings or to go viral, or maybe he actually believes what he said.

"Fernando is still part of the team with our Indy 500 project", Brown insisted to Europa Press at the launch of McLaren's new orange and blue auto.

"I think it's likely that we will not announce a reserve driver, but I think there are drivers who, if we need someone at short notice, could play that role".

"Right now we are taking testing one day at a time", he said in reference to next week's test, where Sainz and Norris will be on duty.

"We are focusing on our racing drivers".

"I think any time you go into pre-season testing and are doing anything from reliability to performance, you kind of have a set plan but work at it one day at a time".

Will Fernando Alonso be driving this beast anytime soon?
