Last week it was reported that Juventus were lining up a £175m move for Salah, with Cristiano Ronaldo keen for the Egypt global to join him in Turin.

EA has sought to clarify why the Portugal worldwide has been removed from the cover of the game.

EA Sports released a promo cover for their Champions League content but omitted the competition's all-time top scorer in favour of Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne and Paulo Dybala. Another noticeable change, the menu also features Alex Morgan, an American player who evolves at Olympique Lyonnais.

Juve's tally rose on 63 minutes as Ronaldo raced ahead of the defence to finish home a low cross following from Mandzukic to extend his tally to 19 league goals for the season.

Ronaldo also recently accepted a £16.6million fine and 23-month prison sentence for tax evasion during his time at Real Madrid. In October 2018, for example, EA explained that is was "closely monitoring" Ronaldo's situation following rape allegations dating from 2009 in Las Vegas.

In a statement to Eurogamer, EA Sports said: "With the UEFA Champions League coming to EA Sports FIFA 19 this year, we have a unique opportunity to offer a range of new content to players that reflects the real-world excitement of football".

EA have suggested that the refresh in the cover and in-game menus is linked to the Champions League.

EA Sports is using the knockout stages to feature "some of the biggest stars in football" other than Ronaldo.

What's more likely to happen is that Salah goes nowhere, and neither does Dybala - with Ronaldo's arrival at La Vecchia Signora just a bump in a road for a player who looks destined to enjoy a lengthy, successful spell in Serie A.
