One guard dead, 5 hurt in attack on Iran revolution anniversary

A member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards has been killed and five wounded in an attack on a paramilitary base in southeastern Iran, local media reported.

"Basij base in Nik Shahr came under. fire this morning and several from the Revolutionary Guards communications personnel who were wiring the base were hit", Marashi said.

"Morteza Ali-Mohammadi was martyred in the incident and the five critically injured have been transferred to the hospital", Nikshahr's prosecutor Mohsen Golmohammadi told the semi-official YJC news agency.

Iran began on Friday ten days of state-sponsored celebrations marking the 1979 Islamic Revolution which deposed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, a secular king allied to the West.

An hour after the attack a Twitter account said to be linked with Jaysh-ol-Adl, a Sunni militant group took responsibility for the attack.

The surface to surface missile named Hoveizeh is from the Soumar family of cruise missiles, which Iran added to its arsenal in 2015, Iranian Defence Minister Amir Hatami said.
