Chinese tech company Huawei on Sunday its their Mate X, a foldable 5G ready smartphone, at an event attended by around 3,000 people held on the eve of the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC2019) which opens here on Monday.

The Galaxy S10 was announced last week and with this phone set to launch in the coming weeks and that means prices for the current S9 continue to tumble.

In the USA and the United Kingdom, the Samsung Galaxy Buds will go on sale March 8, the same day the new Galaxy S10 phones go on sale. The display on the back serves as a secondary display, that can, for example, show the camera preview when you are taking pictures with the rear camera.

OnePlus had a prototype of its 5G phone on the MWC show floor, but it was wrapped in a large white box, hiding everything except the screen.

Unfortunately, guests at the pre-MWC event were not allowed to handle the device on show, which makes estimations of its actual performance and usability hard at this point. the Mate X will reportedly cost US$2.600 at it's launch, and become available by the second half of 2019.

But the new Huawei phone could face availability and production constraints for now as He Gang, head of Huawei's smartphone division, said he anticipates the output of the Mate X phones will be around 100,000 units per month, according to separate NetEase report.

Samsung just revealed more details of its upcoming 4G Galaxy Fold device at Unpacked this week.

Huawei said its Mate X would be available later in the year to coincide with the launch of 5G networks, which are expected to begin limited rollout in the summer in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

Design wise, the Mate X easily beats the Galaxy Fold - there are no notches on the display, and you are getting an nearly edge-to-edge display design that looks really attractive.

The power switch is integrated into the fingerprint reader, and there is 512GB storage (expandable by Huawei's proprietary nano card up to 256GB) and 8GB of RAM onboard. The main display is 6.6-inches when folded with a more traditional 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2480 x 1148 resolution, which trumps the Galaxy Fold's 4.6-inch front-facing display.
