The Avengers: Endgame actor is one of the presenters at tonight's Oscars ceremony, but he already stole the show when he helped Regina King to the stage after she won the Best Supporting Actress in the first award announcement of the ceremony.

Regina King wanted her mother to be in the building if she wins her first Academy Award.

This year's Best Supporting Actress nominees also included Amy Adams (Vice), Marina de Tavira (Roma), Emma Stone (The Favourite) and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite).

King, 48, mentioned to Ryan Seacrest during E!'s Live From the Red Carpet: The 2019 Oscars special that she had brought her mother as her date; Seacrest invited Gloria up to the platform, but her mother remained on the carpet and let her daughter stay in the spotlight.

"To be standing here representing one of the greatest artists of all time ― James Baldwin ― is a little surreal", she said in her acceptance speech.

"James Baldwin birth this baby and Barry you nurtured her, surrounded her with some much love and support".

On Saturday, the eve of the Oscars, King claimed that same title at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

"My sisters in art... it's been an honor to have my name just said with yours the whole step of the way", King said, acknowledging her fellow nominees. "It's been pretty incredible".

Captain America was there to save Regina King from taking a tumble.
