After keeping Anthony Davis around past the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, the Pelicans will likely soon have to say goodbye to their franchise superstar.

The Wizards reportedly sent forward Otto Porter the Bulls and Markieff Morris to the Pelicans in separate trades Wednesday. Selected 13th overall by Phoenix in the 2011 NBA Draft, Morris has appeared in 555 career regular season games (330 starts) with Phoenix and Washington, averaging 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.4 minutes per game.

The Wizards will receive Wesley Johnson in return. He is expected to seek a second opinion on a lingering neck injury that has kept Morris out since the end of December.

The Wizards seemingly made this deal for financial reasons, while the Pelicans likely just wanted to take a flyer on a potential impact player. His original prognosis was six weeks after being diagnosed with transient cervical neuropraxia.

The key to this trade is that Morris makes almost $2.5 million more than Johnson. With the trade of Porter and now Morris, Washington is $232,000 below the threshold.

Washington is 22-32 and four games back of the Heat after a 148-129 loss to the Bucks on Thursday.
