Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhat's Gully Boy rocks Berlinale 2019

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are now going all out to promote their upcoming release Gully Boy.

"Packed house with the loudest, most passionate cheers". After delivering blockbusters like Padmaavat and Simmba a year ago, the actor has kick-started 2019 on a high note with Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy in which he debuts as a rapper.

Designer Manish Arora explained why Ranveer's jacket, which he wore at the Berlin International Film Festival, was more than just an outfit.

"It's got commentary on the class divide, it's got commentary on choices young people make - whether they want to be stuck in something that gives them no fulfilment versus pursuing their passion", said Ranveer, whose character Murad has a meteoric rise after posting his first rap video online. Ranveer, known for his effervescence and exuberance, exhibited why he's best tagged as Bollywood's powerhouse of energy. One of the songs from the film, Apna Time Aayega, for which he has lent his voice, is now the number one track across all streaming platforms!

"They bowled really well, they didn't miss their lengths often and they made us work hard for what we got". Sri Lanka will start on 49 for 1 after a poor stroke saw Thirimanne fall for a 15-ball duck.

"It was a truly memorable night!" His co-star Alia Bhatt, looking striking in a Prabal Gurung ensemble, also made her presence felt by asking the audience to chime in "aayega" when she says "Apna time".

Initial reviews of the film, which is a rather unusual Valentine's Day release, are positive.

"Gully Boy", produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, features Ranveer as an up-and-coming rapper who sets out to achieve his dream by rhyming about his life on the Mumbai streets.
