The Razer smartphones are gaming-centric devices with 120Hz displays and 8GB of RAM. Recent job cuts suggest we may not see a third iteration of the gaming-focus handset.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that several engineers who worked on the original Razer Phone and the Razer Phone 2 had left the company this month. Despite this, there's been a report (and also an official statement from the company) indicating the Razer Phone 3 has been cancelled and staff redeployed onto other projects or made redundant.

Razer also announced on Saturday (February 16) that it's ceasing operations of its Razer Games Store on 28 February 2019 as part of the company's realignment plans. As part of the realignment, we shut down several projects and unfortunately had to part ways with about 30 employees (about 2 per cent of our total workforce).

Ardern's comments also come at a time that New Zealand's relationship with China, its largest trading partner, is under scrutiny. The bilateral ties are robust and mature and the two sides could manage their differences in a mature and respectful way.

Those remaining will be moved to different parts of the company.

Razer has embarked on a restructuring process which could see the end of its phone division.

Back to the Razer Phone 2, we should highlight unlocked devices in the United States are scheduled to receive their first OS makeover on February 27, followed by "most" carrier variants on March 13, and AT&T-locked models on April 4. We are working on new exciting mobile projects and will share the news when we are ready. But within those five or so months, it seems that Razer has either had a change of heart or the business didn't seem as profitable as it expected. On one hand, they confirmed that some mobile staff members were let go and others were reassigned to different projects while at the same time committing to investing in the category through hardware and software initiatives.
