A fat rat almost lost its life after getting stuck in a sewer grate in Bensheim, Germany.

She was a rat, a large one.

Photos of the rat showed its head and rotund torso poking out of the hole, with its bottom half obscured by the sewer cover.

Berufstierrettung Rhein Neckar, an animal rescue organization from Rhein Neckar in southwestern Germany, was involved in the rat's rescue.

A particularly plump rat had an adventure this weekend after it got stuck in a manhole cover and had to be freed by local firefighters and animal rescuers. The rat was reportedly unharmed.

Buckeyes Bounced By 10
After Ohio State missed its seventh straight shot, Cowan was fouled on an attempt from beyond the arc and sank two from the line. The Terrapins won 75-61 at Ohio State on January 18 and are 6-2 against the Buckeyes since entering the Big Ten in 2014-15.

"She had a lot of winter flab and was stuck fast at her hip - there was no going forward or back", said Michael Sehr, a professional animal rescuer from Rhein Necker, according to BBC.

"The animal was subsequently released again into the wild".

The animal rescue group "Berufstierrettung Rhein Neckar" posted pictures of the rescue on Facebook, prompting thousands of reactions on the social media platform and hundreds of comments. Once free, the rat was promptly returned to the sewer.

It took them several attempts and repositionings of the heavy manhole cover, but eventually Mr Sehr was able, using only his gloved hands, to force the rat's sizable backside out through the small gap.

"Even animals that are hated by many deserve respect", Sehr said to those rat-haters, the BBC reported.
