Richard Gere becomes father just days before 70th birthday

He and girlfriend Alejandra Silva welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, over the weekend.

The Pretty Woman star and Alejandra Wednesday in April (18), and rumours began that they were expecting their first child together in the summer - with the pair confirming the happy news in September.

The news she was expecting emerged just six months after she tied the knot with her actor boyfriend at a civil ceremony in Spain last April before celebrating the occasion with friends and family at Richard's home near NY the following month.

In September, Silva posted a photo of herself with Gere visiting the Dalai Lama.

It read: "A very special moment just a few minutes ago". "Getting blessings for our precious to come. we couldn't announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama". The bouncing baby boy is the second child for Richard and Alejandra, respectively, as the 69-year-old actor has an 18-year-old son, Homer James Jigme, while Alejandra is mother to a six-year-old son Albert.

Back in April, the "Pretty Woman" alum, 70, and Silva, 35, made headlines when they secretly Wednesday in a small civil ceremony after four years of dating, HOLA! reported at the time.
