'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' teases mini Super Bowl trailers

CBS Films has debuted four scary 15-second TV spots during the Super Bowl for the latest horror offering from Guillermo del Toro, an adaptation of the beloved book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

If you wanted a good scare as a kid, you read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The movie will hit theaters on August 9, 2019. Based on Alvin Schwartz's horror books from the '80s and early '90s, which featured unforgettable nightmare-inducing artwork by Stephen Gammell, the upcoming movie follows a group of young folks as they try to figure out what's behind the gruesome murders plaguing their small town.

Hong Kong seizes record haul of pangolin scales from Nigeria
Officials estimated the value of the haul at HK$62 million (US$8 million). Historically the few who are caught have rarely face stiff penalties.

Now, 38 years after the first book was released into the world, CBS Films has adapted them into a new film of the same name - and the first sneak peeks at the movie's creatures just dropped. The trailer is straight-up scary! Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn star. A terrifying scarecrow takes center stage.

The film is produced by Academy Award victor Guillermo del Toro and directed by André Øvredal. The first trailer also gave us glimpses at the other scary stories the movie will bring to life. Check out the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Super Bowl spots below and look for the third one to arrive soon! A film like Goosebumps can get away with something a little lighter and sillier, but Scary Stories looks pretty hardcore for what it is, so I'm curious how the framing device will fit with the tone.
