Spike Lee wins his first Oscar ever for BlacKkKlansman's screenplay

Previously, the Brooklyn-raised Lee had only received a Best Screenplay nod for "Do The Right Thing" in 1990 and a Best Documentary Feature nomination in 1998 for "4 Little Girls".

Spike Lee's film, BlacKkKlansman, is now nominated in three categories this year: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Lee for Best Director. "Make the moral choice between love versus hate". He wrote the movie, which was based on the book by Ron Stallworth, with Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, and Kevin Willmott.

The second problem came when Ja Rule tried to get the crowd "ready" for his music. Pretty much everything went downhill from there.

It's the first time ever that Lee's been nominated for Best Director and it's the first time he's been nominated for any awards for two decades. "You know I had to get that in there!"

"BlacKkKlansman" was nominated in several categories including Best Picture, Directing, Film Editing and Music (Original Score).
