Stevens after loss to Bulls: 'I have to do better'

LaVine scores career-high 42 as Bulls top Celtics 126-116

The highs and lows of the Boston Celtics 2018-19 National Basketball Association season continued Saturday night in a lackluster 126-116 loss to Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and the Chicago Bulls.

Why do you think that?

"Because I'm here", Irving replied.

It was the Celtics' second consecutive loss and fourth in their last six games. His 37 points on 14-of-24 from the field to go with his 10 assists and 5 rebounds was an impressive stat line in Chicago but wasn't enough to knock off the Bulls.

In his postgame remarks, Irving told reporters he's putting this game behind him as the Celtics focus on reaching the playoffs - "where the fun begins".

While Brad Stevens is once again shouldering the blame for the team's inconsistent play, the players in the locker room opened up about yet another performance that can be chalked up as the "worst loss of the season".

"You're going to have clunkers in the NBA", Stevens said. We're still waiting for that thing to click. We've gone on eight games, six games, four games winning streaks and then we'll hit a lull of three games and we're back answering questions like this, so, it is what it is. "Like I said, I don't get frustrated about this stuff anymore", said Irving.

Despite losing to the lowly Chicago Bulls on Saturday at the United Center, Irving told reporters after the game he's not anxious at all and is confident no team will beat the Celtics once the playoffs start.

The Bulls have been a struggling basketball team, but they still have talent. They dropped to 37-23 with the loss to Chicago and are in fifth place of the Eastern Conference standings.

Boston will face the Raptors in Toronto on Tuesday.
