Whyte called for a fight with Povetkin previous year, but the Russian boxer went forward with a lucrative mandatory fight against IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in September at Wembley Stadium.

I really believe it will be a major moment for Joshua's career, Legacy is about creating iconic moments and Joshua in NY is an iconic moment.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested that Anthony Joshua 's United States of America debut against Jarrell Miller is close to be confirmed and could be held at Madison Square Garden.

Meanwhile, Whyte is continuing to plan his own future away from a bout with Joshua, but he did reveal the pair held private discussions.

Whyte has suggested American Breazeale is a preferred choice, although he would welcome a clash with Povetkin. "Hopefully by the end of this week, the weekend, we could be in a position to announce his next fight".

"The decision is meant to be made this week, or as late as early next week".

"We know that Dillian Whyte was talking a lot about wanting the fight".
