There's a new petition to sell Montana to Canada. Here’s why

There's a fun little petition over at Change.org - why not sell Montana to Canada to pay down the national debt?

A person poked a little fun at Montana by proposing to sell the state to Canada for $1 trillion to pay off the USA national debt. While $1 trillion is a hefty price tag, the overall United States deficit passed $22 trillion last week. "Just tell them it has beavers or something".

"We have too much debt and Montana is useless", the petition reads. "Montana native thinks this is a great idea, eh!" said another supporter.

Some of those who have signed the online petition claim to be Montana residents who would welcome the change in citizenship.

Ghana's Thomas Partey could be in the starting line-up for Atletico Madrid when they welcome Juventus to the Wanda Metropolitano for their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

People who signed the petition shared their support for the sale, according to the New York Daily News.

"I'm Montanan and hoping to join Canada without the moving costs", one signee wrote. The US is a grade A mess (see what i did there Canada- like syrup).

"I plan to retire next year, and I am torn between Montana, where I love to fly fish, or Canada, where there is no Trump".

So could the US sell a state to another country? Back in 2012, a writer for The Washington Post opined that the USA should sell Alaska to cure the national debt.
