President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States has recovered Danny Burch, an American citizen who was being held hostage in Yemen for the a year ago and a half.

USA citizen Danny Burch had been detained in Yemen and was later released to the third-party country in January of 2018.

Danny Burch "has been recovered and reunited" with his family, Mr Trump said on Twitter, thanking the United Arab Emirates for its assistance.

He continued, "We work every day to bring Americans home".

"We maintain constant and intensive diplomatic, intelligence, and law enforcement cooperation within the United States government and with our foreign partners", Trump said, in a statement that was echoed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 'We will not rest as we continue our work to bring the remaining American hostages back home!'

His Yemeni wife said he was seized in the Yemeni capital Sanaa in September 2017 after dropping his children off at an event.

Yemen has been riven by a deadly civil war since 2015 and Burch's abduction had been blamed on Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.

Burch was transferred from Yemen to Oman in January 2018, traveling in the company of a senior Houthi official.
