Windies skipper Holder set for Northamptonshire stint

"Were Trevor's words stinging? Yes of course- Buttler

West Indies captain Jason Holder will join Northamptonshire for the start of the county season, the club has confirmed.

West Indies team's former coach Stuart Law said that the hosts had a better plan against England in the ongoing Test series which WI lead 2-0 with one more match to go, starting Saturday.

His involvement is subject to Cricket West Indies granting a no objection certificate in a move aimed at protecting him for the World Cup campaign in the wake of a shoulder injury he suffered a year ago. The England skipper himself scored only seven runs in each of England's innings in the second Test.

England recalled Keaton Jennings after he was dropped for the 10-wicket defeat in Antigua, but it was an unhappy return for the opener, who ought to have been out twice before he was removed for a painstaking eight from 43 balls.

"England is somewhere I've wanted to play for a long time and I'm looking forward to the experience of county cricket and testing myself in different conditions", Holder, the world's top-ranked test all-rounder, said in a statement.

Alabama's 2019 National Signing Day Recruiting Roundup
With much of the drama falling earlier in the recruiting season, there were only a few surprises and flips throughout the day. Young had been committed to Alabama since July 4, but wavered on that decision leading up to National Signing Day .

Plagued by the lack of a robust grassroots development programme that could supply quality players regularly, the Windies managed with the limited resources in their arsenal, in the form of the pace quartet of Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel Holder and Alzarri Joseph, who shot out the Englishmen for a paltry 77 in the first innings of the first Test.

"I'm hopeful from a personal point that it will provide me a good opportunity of acclimatising to English conditions and getting some time in the middle ahead of the World Cup in England".

Northants head coach David Ripley said he expected Holder's capabilities to make him a huge asset to the club in his time there.

"Jason is one of the world's top players and it will be great to have him as part of our squad during a period of the season where we will have both Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup matches".

But Stokes and Buttler came together for an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 124 as two of England's traditionally aggressive batsmen, perhaps in light of recent criticism of the side's approach, reined in their natural game to guide their team to a strong position.
