It represents the second-largest confiscation of cocaine ever at the Port of New York/Newark. But a search revealed 60 packages containing a white, powdery substance - which later tested positive for cocaine.

The drugs had an estimated street value of $77 million.

A news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection says that the weight of the seized drugs is 3,200 pounds.

S. Coast Guard, Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration also took part in the investigation.

In 1994, the feds uncovered around 6,600 pounds of cocaine inside a shipment of roofing material that came into Port Newark.

The drugs were discovered at the port of Newark after authorities detected an irregularity in the pin used to close the shipping container doors, according to Special Agent Erin Mulvey with the NY division of the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

No arrests have been made.

Customs officials seized more than 3,200 pounds of cocaine with a street value of $77 million in what they call the largest cocaine seizure at the ports of NY and New Jersey in 25 years.

"This is a significant seizure, in fact it is the largest cocaine seizure at the Port of New York/Newark since May 1994", said Troy Miller, Director, New York Field Operations.

NYPD Commissioner James P. O'Neill said, "The proliferation of illegal drugs in New York City will never be tolerated, neither by law enforcement nor by the people we serve".

Authorities said the source of the cocaine remains under investigation, while officials with the U.S. Customs Border Protection on Monday acknowledged the cooperation of the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency for their assistance.
