New Series Set in Orphan Black Universe in Development at AMC

Variety is reporting that AMC is now in early talks to bring the beloved series Orphan Black back to TV, after it ended its five-season run on the channel two years ago.

Temple St. Productions, which produced the original series, is on board to produce the series, which we hear is not a reboot or spinoff, but will be a new story set in the Orphan Black universe. It has not yet been confirmed if the new series will air on multiple networks as Orphan Black aired on BBC America in the U.S. Each of its five seasons were showered with accolades by critics; Maslany scored well-deserved Emmy nominations for her lead performance no fewer than three times, taking home the trophy in 2016. There's now a search for a writer to bring the concept to life and the producers are fielding multiple pitches and perspectives - nearly mirroring the various personalities of the Clone Club itself. AMC declined to comment.

Then there's the issue of the starring cast. It starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers that she is a clone and that someone is plotting to kill her and her clone "sisters". Maslany's awe-inspiring turn as the multiple clones created by the Dyad Institute carried the show, and elevated it from its cable sci-fi foundations.

Are you a big fan of Orphan Black?

Orphan Black debuted on BBC America in 2013, and while it was slightly underseen during its tenure on the cabler, the series picked up considerable steam after Amazon secured the streaming rights in advance of it second season. Instead, it will reportedly be a new show with new characters that takes place in the same universe as Orphan Black.
